Connecting people with authentic Australian gems
Andrew & Katrina’s story
A few years ago, we took a chance trip in the Gemfields and were immediately fascinated by the people, geology and beauty of the Queensland sapphire industry. Since then, we have been learning, sourcing quality gems and have immersed ourselves in the history of the Central Queensland Sapphire.
In our mid 50’s and still working, it seemed like a great “hobby” which has now grown a little out of control. You start with one, then find a reason to acquire another, and another, and another. We have 2 VJ faceting machines. The one our son Matt is using does a lot more work than ours, largely because he has a natural talent for it, better eyes and can get a very good result with perfect meet points and excellent polish using a copper lap with 3,000 diamond dust for a pre polish, then onto a tin lap with a 60,000 grit and final polish with 100,000. The challenge is finding good quality rough sapphire to cut, it is becoming very scarce.
Our collection is large enough to be able to offer choice and value to buyers with approximately 300 cut gems catalogued, photos and videos are available for your consideration. The vast majority of gems were mined in the 80’s & early 90’s from hard working small scale miners. They are all Central Queensland sapphires and they each have a story to tell which we provide in our provenance certificate.
Home base for us is the Sunshine Coast but our marketplace is everywhere in Australia. We look to engage with buyers to find the right gem for the right occasion, recognising that this is an emotional and financial decision that takes time.
You will find us very easy to deal with as this little business is a passion, not a necessity, and we want you to be as happy with your beautiful little sapphire as we will be sad to see it go.
About Our Sapphires
We verify the provenance of all of our gems so that history stays with the stone.
They are almost exclusively cut in Australia, however a small percentage of the smaller stones can be cut overseas. They are clearly classified as that.
Whilst we don’t object to heat treatment to improve a stone, none of our gems are heat treated.
A significant majority were mined in the 80’s & 90’s and are verified central Queensland sapphires.
We have a large supply of sapphire rough material and are always bringing in new gems.
Our Guiding Principles
The history of the gemstone so its story of when, where and how it came to the surface is transferred to its new owner.
Understanding what the client is looking for meeting those needs or finding someone else who can.
